 - Welcome to Music at St. Patrick's -

Here at St Patrick’s, music plays an important role in the liturgical life of the parish. The Choir is made up of around fifteen enthusiastic members (young and young at heart) who split into smaller groups to sing at all three weekend Masses.

The choir is led by our organist, John Whyte and Director of Music, James Greechan and they all come together for special feasts such as Easter, Christmas, First Communions and Confirmations.

St Patrick’s, with its generous acoustic, is the ideal setting for all types of sacred music and is a joy to sing and play in. We try to have a healthy balance within our liturgical music, with a mix of modern and traditional hymns, as well as occasional polyphony and Gregorian chant.

We are always eager for new members and anyone is welcome regardless of age with absolutely no requirement for previous experience or an audition (none of the members within our choir read music). Being part of the choir is great fun, it is a great opportunity to develop a talent and make new friends, not to mention, spiritually rewarding. We are always keen to have more musicians within our group and would be extremely grateful for anyone willing to share their talent wether it be on the organ or any orchestral instrument.

“Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord” Ephesians 5:19

Plans for the autumn,  come the end of September this year we are hoping to have a newly formed children’s choir in the parish as well as a young organists programme. Making up the choir would be a group of committed young choristers who would be taught how to read music, sight sing, technique and musicianship. Those in the Young Organists programme would be taught the rare skill of playing the organ (and piano) and accompaniment. Such opportunities are rare and are open to all, no previous experience is needed, only enthusiasm, a desire to learn and a spirit of dedication. More info and how to apply will be released nearer the time. If you have any questions in the meantime please speak to James Greechan or Fr Daniel.
